Key Outputs |
• The Scrub Technician will be responsible for the overall preparation of theatre for surgical cases.
• Ability to analyse work and plan accordingly
• Attentiveness given to tasks including cost saving measures, elimination of medico-legal risks
• Ability to act independently without constant supervision
• Knowledge of the work including principles, techniques and etc.
• Power of judgement: the ability to choose the correct alternative, differentiate between what is more important
• Personal drive and ability to preserver to achieve goals
• Performance under pressure and ability to maintain control
• Ability to work in a neat and orderly fashion
• Delivers basic quality patient care
• Adheres to Patient’s Rights at all times

Requirements |
• Qualified as a Theatre Scrub Technician
• Experience in Theatre as an Scrub Technician
• Willingness to work shifts in accordance with the requirements of the unit
• Ability to identify, prevent and report medico-legal risks and adverse events within the unit
• Basic knowledge of stock control principles
• Sound knowledge of activities and procedures as per Scope of Practice in the operating theatre
• Display a team approach by participating actively and co-operatively with team members
• Maintains respectful work relationships and interpersonal effectiveness
• Displays a concern for excellence in achieving results
• Demonstrates good judgement and decision-making skills
• Maintains a customer-focused mind-set that acknowledges the value of the customer

Requirements |
• Current registration with SANC as a Registered/Professional Nurse
• Prior experience caring for patients pre and post-op will be an advantage
• Willingness to work shifts in accordance with the requirements of the Unit
• Competent in the demonstration and assessment of all clinical procedures and management of risks
• Basic knowledge of stock control principles
• The ability to identify and report near-misses and adverse events
• Knowledge of clinical procedures, the scientific nursing process
• A good understanding and application of the nursing scope of practice and knowledge of patient care
• Be able to function as an effective member of the nursing team by facilitating team effectiveness
